In order to allocate places at courses of study that are still free there are two clearing procedures. In these two clearing procedures the applicants take part in a draw in order to offer the places that are still free. The clearing procedure is open to all applicants even those who have already received a place. An existing place is not lost by taking part in the clearing procedure. Participation does not take place automatically. For a clearing procedure a new application for a place of study under the application portal of hochschulstart.de is necessary.
The higher education institutions will only be able to decide which places are free after the enrollment deadline is past. They can, independent of whether they took part in the coordination procedure of hochschulstart.de or not, decide whether to participate in the clearing procedure or not. They can, independent of the clearing procedure, offer their own step-up or draw procedure. Ask for the application deadlines directly at the higher education institution concerned.
The application for up to twelve courses of study in the clearing procedure is done exclusively and centrally through the application portal of hochschulstart.de. Please note that a new registration is not necessary as long as you are already registered.
The clearing procedure consists of two steps:
Applicants who still have not taken part in the other procedures, have to please first register with the application portal of hochschulstart.de if they have not already done so. After the registration you can apply for released courses of study at the higher education institution.
Please choose an application for a course that has places free. The number of places of study won't be displayed. Apart from the data collected at the time of registration no other particulars are needed.
Your papers will be examined by the higher education institution as part of the matriculation and after the admission. This allows the places to be taken quickly.
In the second step of the clearing procedure there is a draw of the admission offers that are still free (the application portal is not accessible meanwhile). After an applicant's number is drawn the admission possibilities are tested in the order of priority starting with the highest. Following this you will be informed of the outcome of the draw.
The applicants, who can be admitted, receive the appropriate notification of admission. Notifications of refusal are not sent as part of this procedure. An application that was not drawn by lot is set into status "excluded".
These videos provide information about registration as well as about other subjects to do with the higher education admission using the dialogue-oriented service procedure (DoSV). We regret that the videos are only available in German.
